Abstract Students are the assets of every country, so paying attention to the factors that lead to the country's education system's improvement is one of the most important tasks of any education official. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gratitude training on anticipated social behaviors and student-teacher relationships among fifth- grade male students studying in Karaj in the academic year of 2018-2019. The research was quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. Two classes were selected as the experimental and control groups using multistage cluster random sampling. The instruments used in this study were the Henrysson & Clark Expectation Social Behavior Questionnaire and the Murray & zovich Student Relationship Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of covariance. The study results showed that gratitude training to students leads to a decrease in the tendency to the expected social behaviors and to improve the relationship between teacher and students. Therefore, according to the research result, teachers in the classroom can use appreciation education techniques to reduce expectant social behavior and improve their relationships with students.
