The Role of Oral Literature in Preserving the Maritime Cultural Identity of the Malay Community in the Riau Islands
Abstract
Oral literature plays a significant role in preserving the maritime cultural identity of the Riau Islands community. This article examines how folklore, myths, legends, and pantun (traditional rhymed poetry) serve as media for conveying traditional knowledge, social norms, and cultural identity to younger generations. Utilizing qualitative methods and approaches, this research explores the role of oral literature in maintaining maritime cultural heritage amidst the currents of modernization and globalization.
