As famílias na comunidade de Santa Rita Rural, município de Montes Claros (Minas Gerais, Brasil)

Abstract

The plurality of families established in the 1988 Constitution, has amplified the development of the juridical concept of family. It gave legitimacy to the several arrangements such as family entities, and conferred rights to the different types of marriage. But is the plurality of arrangements foreseen in the Constitution, that are noticed and recognized in the urban spaces, also a reality in the rural area? This study aims to identify the family arrangements in the area of Pentáurea, rural zone of Montes Claros, and to verify if there is a convergence between the rural family situation and the plurality secured by the Constitution. The material was collected through semi structured interviews and observation. This proportioned a gathering of qualitative information regarding the cultural practices in the chosen area. The collected data was followed by a bibliographical revision and a scientific inductive method. As a result, this investigation presented results that demonstrated the prevalence of marriage in the structuring of the families, but it did not exclude the existence of several family arrangements. The families that were built upon marriage understand the rights they have, different from the families that were constituted through stable union, they do not have the same perception.
