In this paper, we comparatively analyze the spectrum and phase characteristics of coseismic response recorded by broadband tiltmeter, strainmeters, and seismometer at the Hubei Huangmei seismic station. The results show that two types of fixed-point deformation meters are highly sensitive to seismic waves. Compared to tiltmeter, the spectrum of strainmeter is more similar to that of seismometer. Therefore, this article attempts to determine earthquake magnitudes using strain seismic waves. A total of 372 effective earthquakes with coseismic responses and magnitude M≥5.0 from 2021—2024 are collected. Based on the earthquake catalogue published by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a strain magnitude formula is obtained using the least square method.
