This study aims to identify the local residents’ attitude to ethno-tourism development in Ulytau region, which is located in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The research also analyses the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural impact of ethno-tourism both from positive and negative perspectives. To meet the research goals, a structured survey was constructed and distributed from February 2022 to September 2023 among locals of Ulytau. It was studied the attitude of the local population to ethno-tourism, openness and readiness for innovation and ethno-tourism. All variables of the measurement instrument were created based on a review of the relevant literature and modified to define the target group in accordance with the objectives of the study. Based on the results, local citizens are positive to develop ethno-tourism, but in sustainable way with preserving natural and cultural heritage.
