GERAÇÃO AUTOMÁTICA DE PRODUTOS DERIVADOS DE IMAGENS AVHRR-NOAA PARA MONITORAMENTO DE ÁREAS INUNDÁVEIS DO PANTANAL
Abstract
The environmental monitoring of the Brazilian Pantanal can be aided by using remote sensing techniques and satellite images, like NOAA. This paper describes the automatic processing of AVHRR-NOAA time series images for the monitoring of large wetlands areas in the Pantanal. The results have shown that for severely cloud-filtered images, the system was effective in generating geometrically precise image products, with geolocation errors less than a pixel. Reflectance data from the mid-infrared channel allowed the monitoring of Pantanal’s wetlands between october 2005 and september 2006. We could conclude that the flood period is very time variable along the whole plain of Pantanal, and occurs from the west to east and from the north to south. The developed system for image processing and products generation from AVHRR-NOAA data showed to be an important supporting tool, for combining automation and precision in the presented methodology.
