Pottery is a key evidence to narrate the Andean pre-colonial past. However, we know very little about the types of potters who produced that testimony. What types of potters existed in the pre-colonial past? How do we determine the type of potter that produced the evidence we deal with? This article addresses a type of potter completely ignored in the explanations of the Andean pre-colonial material but abundant in the ethnographic evidence of this region. It is the itinerant producer, that is, the potter who leaves his hometown to produce in other locations. On this occasion I will discuss several cases of itinerant potters, focusing on the example of Cuzcudén, San Pablo, Cajamarca, which I am currently investigating.
