With fifty years of hindsight, reviewing the images of the Mexican student movement leads us to protest at the poverty of the present day and age. We experience it as a slap in the face which forces us to evoke the joyous and libertarian fete which characterised this democratic explosion drowned in blood. Fifty years later we must also think unemotionally and realise that, over and above the fact that we were free then, we did aspire to a more just society with the vehemence of youth. This utopia has disappeared while we are engulfed in corruption, poverty and violence, not only the violence of the state against individuals, but also that of individuals one against another.
