This article discusses text-genres teaching taking focus on the existing proposal in the Nacional Curriculum Parameters (Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais) for fundamental and middle school teaching in Brazil. Inicially, a theorectical discussion is presented mainly in relation to the meaning of terms such as text, discourse and enunciation. It then presents some suggestions as to an appropriate genre concept in teaching as well as some tenets for genre teaching and a set of selection criteria for the genres to be worked at school.
