The competence and professionalism of the head are necessary conditions of effective management activities. This paper discusses the problem of management’s performance. The state of this problem, its urgency are shown the contemporary psychological science and practice. At the present time, scientists are interested in professionally important qualities of leadership, but research are not stable and do not understand, what psychological characteristics are defined the effective management. The author suggests the using a structured approach to the analysis of the determinants of subjective as the main requirement for successful research. The article considers the results of the empirical research of determination of quality of managerial activities by personality features – the key qualities of top managers. The paper investigates the psychological structure of key qualities of top managers. From this perspective we make a conclusion about the effectiveness of top manager depends on the specific structure of professionally important qualities of the head, but not the level of development of individual qualities.
