In order to strengthen the prevention and treatment of the mercury pollution in a coal chemical plant area in China, the geostatistics was used to analyze the distribution of mercury in a coal chemical plant in Northwest China and to assess the human health risk accordingly. The average mercury content in the soil of coal chemical plant was 0.092 mg/kg, which was 4.4 times higher than the local background value, and presented an obvious enrichment phenomenon. Due to the non carcinogenic risk mainly through mouth, the average value of 0.093 could not be threatening to the human health. The risk distribution diagram of the chemical plant demonstrates that the risk central area located at the south west of the power unit, which featured as an ellipse shape and diffused by grades from the center. It illustrates that the control of the coal-fired flue gas is the key to the prevention of the pollution in the coal chemical plant area.
