Editions and publications about Chronicle of Samiilo Velychko of Ukraine’s independence period as basis for scientific research
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to eludicate the subject of the modern studies regarding the most famous among the Cossack chronicles - The Chronicle of Samiilo Velychko, to present the research prospects of this unique source. Research methodology. Bibliographic and other general scientific methods - analytical-thematic method, systematic and historical approaches - were used to reveal the peculiarities of the thematic content of scientific editions and publications about the Chronicle. Scientific novelty lies in the study of the thematic range of editions and publications on the Chronicle throughout the period of Ukrainian independence, which would for the first time disclose the range of modern research on this work in various scientific fields - historical, source, literary, linguistic, and more. Conclusions. Over the past 30 years, due to increased attention towards the source base of historical science, research of chronicles and their reprints - The Chronicle of Samiilo Velychko in particular- has been reinforced. Reconstruction of significant body of important documentary and narrative sources has prompted modern researchers in various fields of humanities to new scientific researches, the results of which require logical generalization in thematic aspect. The publication of the first in history complete editionof the Chronicle in 2020 encouraged new studies and it highlighted the problem of thematic structure analysis of this information flow and its bibliographic generalization. Given that the study of published works on research topics is a necessary basis for successful research, this review of publications on the subject, without claimingto be exhaustive, shows the relevance of creating a thorough bibliography of the Chronicle and its author.
