A review of ethical issues in the treatment of addiction

Introduction: Addiction as a disease. Is one of the greatest challenges in front of the health system of Iran, which has increasing dimensions. Attention and obedience to the ethical issues and obligations in the treatment of addiction are of especial importance. Methods and Materials: We selected the most related articles among the related resources fount through searches of databases, and then asked the related questions of the literature identified. The answers were examined and classified in the article.Results: The physicians who give health care to addict patients, as other members of the medical society, are professionals, and are ethically obligated to act according to the principles and standards of professionalism. They are responsible not only to their patients, but also to the society and to other health care workers, and they have to prioritize the patients’ interests to their own interests. The results of reviewing if the above mentioned resources are listed in the article. Discussion: Because of its great and increasing dimensions, the treatment of addiction needs to more attention and compiling the related especial codes and guidelines. Also, more researches and educations in this regard, are necessary.
