L’actualité de Fréculf de Lisieux : à propos de l’édition critique de son œuvre

Abstract

This paper presents Michael I. Allen’s works and edition of the writings of Freculfus of Lisieux, and replaces them in the context of present-day research on early medieval historiography. Some of his analyses are discussed here. Besides, this paper tends to show, thanks to different examples, to what extent Freculfus' works should not be reduced to a mere compilation, but reveal the reflexion of a bishop confronted with his time, and eager to advise the king and this contemporaries in their political action.
