This paper aimed to analyze the process of training and its impact at work in a public organization. The theoretical model considers the training as a process that occurs in four stages: training needs, planning, execution and evaluation. In evaluation stage, the IMPACT model was used to evaluate the training impact at work. Each of these stages was investigated in an empirical descriptive and explanatory, quantitative and qualitative research, in a Hemominas Foundation unit. We applied questionnaires to a sample of 153 trainees and interviewed 11 people, linked to the training process. Quantitative data were submitted to descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis and the qualitative data to the technique of construction of the explanation. Statistical analyses indicated one-factor structure scales and good psychometric performance. The results indicated lacks in the stages of training needs and planning which committed the execution stage. The respondents perceived that there is a good impact of training at work as the quality of work improved with the application of the knowledge acquired in training. However, the scarce management and social support indicates the lack of planning and lack of the leadership and team support to the use of new skills, with negative influence to the transfer of learning to practice long-term work.
