The article aims at the investigation of the lexical semantic field as a paradigmatic formation in the language. The research is being carried out on the basisof English medical terminology that serves the material of the investigation (150 lexical units) and represents the fragment of English scientific view of world. In the article such important notions of modern linguistics as lexical semantic filed and scientific view of world are analyzed, including relations that coexist within the elements of the English lexical semantic field «blood» in its scientific version, such as hyponymy, synonymy and meronymy. The article touches upon such significant problems of modern linguistics as the phenomenon of existing synonymy in terminology from the point of view of standardization, hyponymy as an inclusion relation that represents verbalized knowledge in the language as a result of categorization of reality and meronymy as the part-of relation which in our research represents the chemical composition of blood.
