Terminological Confusion in a New Linguistic Perspective: Metalanguage of the English Diversity Studies
Abstract
The article discusses the major principles of the World Englishes Paradigm as a sociolinguistic discipline and some ambiguous terms related to the global spread of English (world Englishes, International English, English as an International Language, English as a Lingua Franca.) The concepts that underpin the terms are associated with ideologically different paradigms and approaches to the status and functions of the English language.
