Against the usual visions of a cut between sociological knowledge and commitment, the paper defends the advantages of a reflexive familiarity based on the participating observation. This epistemological and methodological hypothesis is mainly worked form an investigation on the students’ social movement of 2006 in a provincial town in France. As long the analysis of the various dimensions of the movement being made that the conditions of it starting up benefited from the closeness of the investigators towards the action. It leads the author to return on Le métier de sociologue by Bourdieu, Chamboredon and Passeron (1968), by proposing a reading different from the most current interpretations.
