Dynamique socio-identitaire : étude des pratiques langagières dans l’espace urbain algérois

Abstract

This article proposes to analyze the different uses of language as they are expressed by the speakers in the urban space of Algiers. Language practices have particular social and spatial traits. They are at the same time social products and are impacted by the environment in which they emerge. Verbal material, related to these behaviors with socio-spatial roots, is collected through field investigation including neighboring users of urban transport in El Biar. Basing our analysis on the speaker’s language repertory, we attempt at answering the question of what are the elements of this repertory that are susceptible of conveying identity’s dimensions. In this contribution, the analysis is conducted from the two perspectives of urban sociolinguistic and discourse analysis.
