This document presents the advances in the formulation of the doctoral project entitled The school textbook of social sciences: analysis of the teaching of political violence and armed conflict (1984-2015) of the Doctorado Interinstitucional en Educación of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas. For the development of the above, the first discussions that consolidate the epistemological field, the context from which the problem is addressed and the pertinence of the teaching of recent history from the school textbook of social sciences will be shown
