Uso variável do artigo definido no português da comunidade de Almoxarife, São Tomé

Abstract

The variable use of the definite article in the noun phrase of the Portuguese spoken by the community of Almoxarife , São Tomé has parallels in its substrate, Santome Creole (Figueiredo 2010, 2014). Here, we compare it with similar variation profiles in the Portuguese of the Tongas, Roça Monte Café, São Tomé, the rural dialect of Helvécia, Bahia, and the educated and popular speech of the city of Salvador, also in Bahia. This study contributes more data for the cluster of variables which underlie the morphosyntactic restructuring of varieties of Portuguese in Africa as well as varieties of Portuguese in Brazil.
