The methodological fundamentals of teaching ESP monologue (expressing reflection) production to students majoring in mechanical engineering have been considered in the article. The teaching approaches (the communicative and activity oriented approach, the professionally oriented approach) have been defined. The realization of the approaches is to be accomplished through the principles of the integrative speech activities teaching, integration with majors, autonomy, theme connection, situational organization, problem-based learning and interactivity which, in turn, determine the educational content: communicative spheres, themes and situations, educational material, lexical and grammatical skills, monologue (expressing reflection) production skills, tasks to facilitate the language skills formation and refinement. The correlation between listening and speaking has been considered. It has been suggested to teach monologue (expressing reflection) production to future mechanical engineers in their 4th year of studies by means of listening (with the use of the podcasting technology), when students demonstrate sufficient level of listening comprehension competence formation. The advantages and methodological potential of the podcasting technology with a view to implementing it in the foreign language teaching process have been scrutinized. Popular podcasting terminals have been analyzed, a number of drawbacks have been identified. In this regard, the podcasting terminal on the educational platform – Canvas, has been developed. Among the advantages of the given terminal, a wide range of tools, such as wiki pages, assessment tools, achievement rate analytics and lecturerstudent interaction, is to be mentioned.
