Teori Wakaf, Kepelbagaian dan Contoh Amalan di Malaysia (Theory, Diversity and Practices of Waqf in Malaysia)

Abstract

Waqf is a form of ibadah that aims to bring closer to Allah SWT. However, not many are aware of the importance of waqf, thus wakaf funds fail to play a significant role in the development of the ummah. Hence, this paper is intended to explain the theory of waqf and its importance in Islam. The author also wishes to explain the waqf diversity wisdom to reflect the value of the uniqueness of waqf in Islam. Finally, it seeks to introduce about several contemporary wakaf practices in Malaysia. In order to achieve this objective, the author conducts a library research to obtain detailed information from an authentic and right source. The study shows that waqf is a pure practice introduced by Islam far ahead of the endowment and philanthropy practice of the West. Yet there is still much to do so that today's Muslims understand the laws of waqf and realize the need for waqf as it is recommended in Islam. It is hoped that this writing will achieve the goal of creating a “waqf literate” community who will donate more funds for the needs of the ummah throughout the times.
