Abstract

Basic principles of effective urban planning are hardly implemented, especially in Switzerland. All too often the urban project design is disconnected from its feasibility. Many examples demonstrate however that these principles are necessary. But they are not sufficient yet. Based on eco-design and life cycle analysis, it is claimed that effective urban planning – understood as a system – should integrate two more steps as well. Together with its design and feasibility requirements, the urban project should be expanded in order to take into account its management all over its lifetimeand its recycling or dismantling.
