An Analysis of Spatio-temporal Evolution of High-Quality Development of Marine Economy and Influencing Factors in China

Abstract

The ocean is a strategic location for China′s high-quality development. In order to promote the high-quality development of China′s marine economy, the paper measures the comprehensive index of high-quality development of the marine economy of 11 coastal provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China from 2006 to 2018 by applying the entropy-rights method from the perspective of five dimensions, namely, innovation, coordination, greenness, openness and sharing, and analyzes its spatial and temporal evolution. The results of the study show that: (1) from the time trend, the index of high-quality development of the marine economy of the whole country and all coastal provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) shows a fluctuating upward trend, indicating that the level of high-quality development of the marine economy in China′s coastal provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) has steadily improved. (2) In terms of spatial distribution, the number of regions with a high level of quality development of the marine economy tends to increase in general. (3) In terms of influencing factors, the level of economic development, the upgrading of marine industry structure, the degree of openness to the outside world, the level of financial development and human capital all have a significant positive impact on the high-quality development of the marine economy, while the level of government support has a certain hindering effect on the improvement of the high-quality development of the marine economy.
