Influence of faith and spirituality in the daily lives of professionals in an Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

Objective: To understand the relationship between faith and spirituality in the daily life of health professionals in the intensive care unit of a university hospital. Method: qualitative and exploratory study, with fourteen multidisciplinary professionals. Information collected in August 2019, through semi-structured interviews. For data analysis, we opted for thematic analysis. Results: the following categories emerged: spirituality in the work process of health professionals; the influence of the professionals faith on patient care; and spirituality in the humanization of care. Final considerations: faith and spirituality were considered as support that generates strength for the professionals to continue working, as well as to promote an integral care to the patient being cared for in this context, since suffering and death are very present in the daily work routine.
