The objective of this study was to analyze the contents of a psychological and social intervention guide for the management of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (DM2) prior to publication. A qualitative study was undertaken and the resulting information was analyzed. The information was obtained from interviews with six patients, diagnosed with DM2 but without psychiatric disorders nor addictions, and three expert judges, with experience of more than two years in working with patients suffering from non-transmissible chronic disease. The interviews were intended to: 1) determine the correlation between the dimensions included in the guide and the patients’ need, 2) validate the experience of the judges regarding the psychological symptoms associated with DM2, and 3) identify the psychological interventions applied. Results suggest it is necessary to include in the guide current empirical evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of assessment and intervention strategies in coping, emotional regulation training and family involvement in support groups. This could contribute to the adjustment of the intervention guide, which is a useful tool for health psychologists.
