Objective: To review the correlation between two methods of physical activity assessment. Methods: It was assessed the correlation between the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short version) and the exercise stress test in treadmill stress test (Memorial/Ellestad protocol). The main data assessed was the value of metabolic units obtained in each instrument. Rresults: The sample was composed of 1,100 individuals, 910 (82.7%) males and 190 (17.3%) females, with ages varying between 20 to 72 years, average age of 43.3 years (standard deviation ± 8,4) who underwent the continued health review at the Center of Preventive Medicine of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein – Check-Up Unit of the unit from Jardins. The statistical analysis was carried out through the correlation between the general values of average metabolic units found in the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the mean values of netabolic units obtained in the exercise stress test. The correlation was 93%. In both methods evaluated, there was proportional increase in the number of metabolic units for each group. Cconclusions: These data allow us to conclude that the International Physical Activity Questionnaire presented a high correlation with the exercise stress test when the numbers of metabolic units were compared.
