As in all contemporary institutions, the actions promoted within the school setting are multiple. With this as a starting point, this article proposes to observe the plurality that is at work in a specific school setting, the individual teacher-parent interview, observed here in an underprivileged context and in the Geneva (Switzerland) school system. Two pairs in conflict organize these interactions: the first combines the asymmetry between teachers and parents, on the one hand, and the importance given to civility and negotiation, on the other, contributing thus to the reduction of the asymmetry. The second pair opposes the figure of the student considered from the perspective of his or her school performance to that of a child perceived first and foremost from the perspective of his or her vulnerability and individual experience.
