Judging by his persistence on collecting ancient monuments, Nikola Vulić should be considered as a founder of epigraphic studies on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Most of the inscriptions he has been working on come from the territory of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He analyzed their contents in detail in an unpublished manuscript entitled 'Historical contents of our ancient monuments'. This study and nine more works as well were written by Nikola Vulić in the period from 1942-1944 and they are still unpublished. Ancient inscriptions help us research various aspects of life of ancient inhabitans of the Balkan Peninsula, and provide valuable data on onomastics, geography, language, religion, style of life in the Roman period. The research of Nikola Vulić has been not limited by territorial borders due to his enthusiasm the inscriptions from Serbia, Macedonia, and Bulgaria were incorporated into CIL (Berlin).
