UJI EFEK EKSTRAK DAUN JAMBU BIJI (Psidium guajava L.) TERHADAP BAKTERI Salmonella pullorum SECARA IN VITRO

Abstract

Salmonella pullorum is a bacterium that has a specific host and infectious to poultry, especially in chicks and turkeys. One of the clinical symptoms of this disease is diarrhea. To handle this bacterial problem in general using antibiotics, but it can cause residual and antibiotic resistence. To avoid that case, new alternative treatments are required. Guava leaves are known as traditional medicine for diarrhea treatments. This study aims to determine the effect of guava leaf extract on Salmonella pullorum growth in vitro. This research uses 6 treatments with 3 repeat times among using disc tetrasiklin as a positive control, 10% DMSO as a negative control, and variation concentration of guava leaf extract 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The results showed the effect of guava leaf extract to inhibit the Salmonella pullorum bacteria, where the highest concentration (40%) had the best effect in inhibiting bacteria.
