After 1989, private initiative in the field of cultural organization became finally possible in Rumania. Every art of spectacle was affected. Now private bands come into view, in competition and sometimes in complicity with the ancient structures. The theatre of animation had to orient itself in the new context: it had to resolve the problem of financing, the problem of interface (traditional spectacles, ambulant spectacles, festivals) and the problem of its aesthetics. The latter varies depending on responses to certain choices or compromises between: the spectacle for children or adults, the after-theatre of signs or the temptation of words, of songs or dancing, the post-modern mix between man and marionettes or the purism, the national tradition and exotic influences. Our study shows the directions and tendencies presently active in Rumania.
