In order to further investigate the dosing scheme for circulating water in the steel industry, the spatial and temporal distribution of different water quality types was analyzed using principal component analysis. Moreover, the scaling index method was used to analyse the tendency of scaling in five regions under different water quality types and different concentration multiples to determine the dosing scheme. The principal component analysis showed that:groundwater was mainly affected by calcium hardness, conductivity, total alkali and chloride ions, while river water or municipal water was mainly affected by total iron and turbidity;the scaling index method shows that:groundwater was scaling for supplementary water, while river water or municipal water was corrosive for supplementary water;it was recommended that the concentration factor was 4-5 when groundwater was supplementary water, and 3-4 when river water or municipal water was supplementary water. Based on the type of water quality and the concentration factor in each area, the recommended dosing plan for each area is optimized.
