The use of armoured units in operations in a populated area

Abstract

According to its field of research this paper is mainly the result of research, analysis and consideration of the use of armoured units in combat operations of the Serbian Armed Forces in a populated area with the focus on the use in an offensive and defensive operation as one of the most important one. It can be concluded that the adequate and proper planning of the use of armoured units in operations in a populated area will have the key role for successful operations. The great manoeuvre capabilities, as well as firepower of these units, facilitate movement through a populated area, and armour contributes to protection of lives from the enemy fire, it deters the enemy and diminishes their readiness for combat due to the psychological effect caused by the sound of tank tracks in populated areas.
