Inaccuracy of the energy-matching calibration technique for hailpads

The hailpad is a device to acquire data about hailstones such as their size and distribution over an area. To serve this purpose, hailpads require regular calibration. Research results indicate that the energy matching technique, a widely used calibration technique for hailpads, may not be sufficiently accurate to determine hailstone size from dent diameters on the hailpad.
