Abstract Source altitude information, if known or can be measured by an altimeter, can greatly improve localisation performance. In this letter, a novel algebraic solution for known‐altitude moving source geolocation using time difference of arrival and frequency difference of arrival measurements is developed. The localisation problem is solved via the successive unconstrained minimisation method. Simulation results demonstrate that the estimation accuracy of the source position and velocity can achieve the constrained Cramér–Rao lower bound at moderate noise levels.
