This paper analyzes the role played by the Church in the formation of Brazilian colonial cities, both in terms of their geographical location, as well as in the political and social aspects. Taking as an example the city of Natividade, founded in the first half of the eighteenth century, located in the old north of Goiás, today the present state of Tocantins.
