The conceptualization of current society: Contributions and limitations / La conceptualización de la sociedad actual: aportaciones y limitaciones.

Abstract

One of the characteristic facts in the human and social sciences from the first half of the 20th century is the effort to conceptualize today's society. After the distinction between modern and postmodern society there is a process of definition of contemporary conditions, a moment of 'crisis' that manifests itself in different areas such as ‘the end of ideologies’ in political thought. This article exposes, analyzes and compares the most outstanding epithets of current society, not exhaustively, where a classification is proposed according to the conception of society due to its causes, its consequences or the oversized nature of some of its characteristics. Faced with this fragmented vision of society, it will be necessary to confront the social fact in a more complex way, which is why it should include the contributions of critical theory, of the concept of reflective society.
