The article presents a review of the literature and personal experience in the field of postgraduate education of doctors in modern conditions. Continuing professional development of health professionals is a continuous process of training and improving the professional competencies of professionals after getting higher education in health care and postgraduate education in internships. The main difference between continuing medical education and traditional one is providing educational activities without focusing on any training program. Until recently, we conducted training on structured programs accredited by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, but now we have introduced narrow thematic courses that take into account the health needs of the region. Such thematic courses with the possibility of in-depth procedural training allow increasing the competence of doctors of different specialties on topics relevant to the health of the region. Our combination of two educational systems allowed us to raise the effectiveness of training from level 4 (competence) to level 6 (patient health) in the continuing medical education pyramid, which was confirmed by increasing the efficiency of attestation of doctors: anesthesiologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons, conducted every 5 years at the regional and national levels.
