Study of Electromagnetic Forming of Cylindrical Workpieces Based on Equivalent Electrical Circuit
Abstract
Electromagnetic forming is a method ofmetal working by plastic deformation, under theaction of forces acting on the conductor in a rapidlyvarying magnetic field obtained by discharging abattery of condensers through a forming coil. Theanalytical treatment of the process in terms ofequivalent circuits as well as field analysis methodhas been established since the end of 1970s. Themain disadvantage of such approaches is that theycannot be easily applied to more complicated coilgeometries, which are often used in industrialapplications. In this paper, electromagnetic formingis modeled by a theoretical model of anelectromagnetic forming installation takes intoaccount the induction effects with in conductors, theinduction effects of work piece motion, and thedynamic behaviour of workpiece material. Wepresent the numerical simulation of transients in anelectromagnetic forming installation of cylindricalconductors using PSPICE software.
