The Endothelium Dysfunction as a Possible Promoter of Development of Non-Functional Pituitary Adenoma

Abstract

Recently the term of endothelial dysfunction has obtained a wide circulation in clinical neuroendocrinology. The phenomenon plays a significant role in genesis of many cerebrovascular brain pathological conditions. In most studies it is used as a synonym for imbalance of endothelial synthesis of NO, a signaling factor participating in mediation of its function. NO is able both to inhibit and activate apoptosis, to enhance angiogenesis and neoangiogenesis as well as to increase proliferation level and tumor cell metastasis. The review considers a possible pathogenetic role of endothelial dysfunction in non-functional pituitary adenoma development.
