History of the Institute of Sociology of the RAS in Biographies and Recollections

Abstract

The article shows that biographical interviews with the researches of the Institute of Sociology of the RAS of di?erent generations can be an e?ective tool for studying the past, present and future of this institution and Russian sociology in general. An array of over than 180 biographical interviews with Russian sociologists, conducted by the author in 2004–2018, is presented. The essential features of the history of the Institute of Sociology and the Russian sociological community as a whole are analyzed on the basis of the biographies of 51 sociologists who have worked (are working) at the Institute since its foundation in 1968.
