The treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) depends on factors such as the presence of symptoms, urological abnormalities, anatomical level, severity of UTI and renal function. As a rule, the treatment of UTI in patients with DM is similar to the treatment of patients without DM. The choice of antibiotic should be guided, in addition to the characteristics of the patient, by the patterns of local resistance to uropathogens. There is no indication to treat asymptomatic bacteriuria in patients with diabetes.
