El patronazgo musical de la cofradía del “Ave María” y la consolidación de la ortodoxia católica en el Madrid del siglo XVII
Abstract
The confraternity of “Ave María” is a good example of the role that this kind of institution played in the construction and consolidation of the Counter-Reformation ideology, one that was oriented to the exaltation of the Holy Sacrament and the Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary. In the festivities organized by the confraternity, music assumes a significant role as an indoctrination tool and also as a sonorous emblem of the ritual that is associated to this institution. The aim of this paper is to document the musical activity of the confraternity and to provide an overview of the all-year round rich musical scene of itinerant ensembles based in the town of Madrid, that resulted as a consequence of this and other similar confraternities.
