For improving the friction reduction and anti-wear properties of magnesium alloy surface, the evolution law of tribological performances of water-based lubricants with the different nano BN concentrations were evaluated using a reciprocating ball-on-plate tribometer for magnesium alloy/steel pairs. Results showed that the friction coefficient and wear loss of the samples decreased first and then increased with the increase of the content of nano BN in the lubricating fluid. When the mass fraction of nano BN in the lubricating fluid was 0.5%,the lubricating fluid exhibited the best tribological properties, and the friction coefficient and wear amount under this condition were reduced by 38.5%and 70%respectively,compared with those under the deionized water condition. The excellent friction reduction and anti-wear properties of nano-BN water-based lubricants were attributed to the deposition of nano BN on the surface of wear scars, which formed a protective film between the friction interfaces, thereby effectively avoided direct contact between friction pairs.
