Today's student counselling services in Japan started in 1950‟s under the influence of the Educational Committee of United States of America. Accordingly, especially in the early history of student counselling in Japan, theories of American psychologists had a major influence on the services offered to students. Today, student counselling services are popular in middle sized and larger universities, and new approaches based on Japanese traditional therapies have been adopted.
