The characterizationof schoolchildrenwithspecial educationalneedsis one ofthe researcheswhich areprioritized by theLatin American Reference Centerfor Special Education. Fullycharacterizethechildren whohavemental retardationis imperativewhen you want toprovidean educational responsetailored to theparticularities ofthe personbeing tested.Fromthe triangulation ofsources and authorsselected thosethat correspond tothe peculiaritiesof childrenand subjectedto consultationby a group ofexternal evaluators.Theyagreed thatthe proposedindicatorsand instrumentshasmade scientific rigor,are sufficientto characterize themotordevelopment ofthe area, being possible itsimplementationwith studentswithmental retardation. To archive that some indicators and instruments were delimit that were necessary to fulfill the characterization through triangulation of sources and authors, selecting those that correspond with the peculiarity’s of the underage which one are summited to consult by a group of external evaluators. This ones coincide on point out that the propose of indicators and instruments poses scientific rigor and they are enough to characterize the development of the motive sphere, being `possible its utilization. After the application of this instruments to a group of 21 students with mental retardation it was able to point out that predominate an adequate development of the postural system, the corporal scheme, the orientation in space, laterality and rhythm, though, indicator like the tonic function, dynamic coordination, facial expressions and visual motive coordination are affected.
