Abstract
Saiva religious practice has been seen widely in Lanka. The people who follow the Saivic cult pray to the omnipotent and omniscient Lord Shiva. There are many spiritual treatises that speak of the glory of Lord Shiva and the philosophic ideas elicited by him to the Siddhas. “Saiva Samaya Chintamani” is one of the most prominent books on Saivism in the Twentieth Century. The book “Saiva Samaya Chintamani” was written by Arunachaladeshikar, a Saiva poet from Eastern Sri Lanka. The author has written this book based on the ideas in the Shaiva Siddhanta sources and his own life experience. This book thoroughly explains Saivism so that the common person can easily understand it. The purpose of this study is to identify and reveal the basic concepts of Saivism mentioned in the religious treatise “Saiva Samaya Chintamani”. Arunachaladeshikar's “Saiva Samaya Chintamani” has been used as the main text for this study based on descriptive research methodology. The concepts of Pati, Pasu and Pasam described in the book are brought out in this study.
