Nécromancie métatextuelle et limbes contrefactuelles : dynamiques du Marvel Cinematic Universe
Abstract
This paper analyzes the evolution of the Marvel Studios transmedia universe (Marvel Cinematic Universe) by focusing on its dynamics through a diachronic perspective. Television series Agents of SHIELD and Loki illustrate varying degrees of interconnectivity with the movies, all the while displaying similarities in their use of characters brought back from the dead, which in turn underlines the compartmented structure of this universe. This metatextual necromancy is further explored through the slow integration of the X-Men into the MCU to better understand how to describe and interpret the “intended structure” (Thon 2015) of this universe, especially the way the MCU exploit a “stock” of adaptations created by other studios.
