Desde los feminismos: Patty Chang
Abstract
El presente artículo analiza la obra de la artista chino-norteamericana Patty Chang, que en sus obras explora las construcciones simbólicas planteadas por Occidente y por Oriente. A través de elementos de tipo biográfico, cuestiona aquellas cimentaciones que se realizan por medio del lenguaje. Pero además, las obras artísticas de Chang revelan contradicciones dentro del propio feminismo - blanco, heterosexual y burgués- que deja afuera a quienes que no se ajustan a la norma. Este es el caso de las mujeres inmigrantes que se encuentran atravesadas por la fricción entre sus tradiciones y la absorción de la cultura que las recibe.The aim of this article is to analyse the work of chinese american artist Patty Chang who studies different constructions of identity raised by the Occident in its dialogue with the Orient in her productions. Through the analysis of different biographical elements, "sedimentations" derived from the language are discussed. Also, Chang's pieces of work reflect the contradictions of white feminism, heterosexual and bourgeois, that has left aside individuals who cannot adapt to a norm. This is the case of women immigrants who are marked by significant frictions between their own traditions and the absortion the culture that receives them.
